Will Fergie and Andy Remarry?
Rhoda fails to understand why Fergie and Andy, aka Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, the Duke and Duchess of York, bothered to divorce in 1996 when they have more or less remained living under the same roof ever since and – despite rumors that her recent ‘cash for access’ scandal may force her out of the Royal Lodge at Windsor – will invariably continue the arrangement and may, indeed, cause shock waves at Buckingham Palace by announcing they wish to remarry.
“I have a great deal of sympathy for Fergie because my circumstances are similar to hers,” confides Rhoda. “I married into a very prominent and wealthy family – but not as wealthy and prominent as the royal family, of course – and it ended up very much a marriage of convenience, with both of us leading separate lives, like a brother and sister.”
“I struck a divorce deal with the family to keep my mouth shut about the family skeletons and in return they set me up in a very lucrative catering business,” explains Rhoda. “I kept my part of the bargain and they kept theirs, and it’s very pleasant, but no way would I want to live under the same roof as my ex-husband – not because I dislike him, it’s because it’s just not done!”
“Of course, having two daughters to raise probably made it easier for them to remain together while leading separate lives,” says Rhoda, “but I just don’t know any divorced couples with children who have even considered this option.”
“It’s possible that Buckingham Palace forced them to divorce after Fergie’s topless toe-sucking scandal with her financial advisor John Bryan while Andrew was away – the prospect of having an adulteress in the family was too much to bear I suppose,” muses Rhoda, “but since Prince Charles has since married Camilla, another adulteress, it is a good time for Fergie and Andy to reconsider their options.”
“Fergie is well known for denying any prospect of remarriage, claiming that they are happy to remain close friends leading separate lives,” says Rhoda, “but now that they are both 50 years old, their daughters are grown up, they obviously still care for each other, there are no other suitors in sight and Fergie is getting into serious financial difficulties on her own,” explains Rhoda, “it makes sense that they would want to become an official couple again.”
“Obviously the deal would benefit Fergie a lot more than it would benefit Andrew – who at 50 is still hot property in the marital market,” says Rhoda, “but with old age approaching for both of them, a friendly companionable marriage of mutual support would do them both good.”
“And as for Buckingham Palace, I think they can argue quite forcefully that their remarriage would be applauded by the nation if not the world – far more so than Charles’ marriage to Camilla.”
